About the Scholarship

Under MHRD, Government of India, The University Grants Commission (UGC) invites applications for the Special Scholarship Scheme named Ishan Uday for NER 2020-21 from Class 12 passed students of North-Eastern Region. The scholarship aims to promote higher education and increase GER (Gross Enrollment Ratio) in the North-Eastern Region.

Ishan Uday scholarship scheme offers a total of 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded every year among NER students who are pursuing general degree courses, technical and professional courses, including medical and paramedical courses.

Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme 2020

Eligibility Criteria:

1. The applicant must be a domicile of North-Eastern Region (NER) 
 i.e.Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
2. Applicant must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in the preceding year.
3. Applicant must secure admission in the first year of a general degree/ technical/ professional/ medical/ paramedical courses in a recognized College/University/Institute.
4. Applicant must belong to a family where annual income does not exceed INR 4.50 lakh from all sources.
5. Only first year Under-graduate students are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
6. For integrated degree courses the scholarship will be tenable for the complete duration of the course. For dual degree courses the scholarship shall be tenable for the first degree only. The university shall clarify it while recommending a candidate for scholarship.
7. Transgender candidates are eligible to apply under the scheme. The reservation shall be followed as per Government of India norms.


The following shall not be eligible under this scheme-

1) Students pursuing courses/programs through Open Universities.
2) Students already availing scholarship for pursuing the Undergraduate programme under any other scheme(s).
3) Students gaining admission through ‘management quota’.
4) Students pursuing courses, such as Diploma Courses, not leading to award of a Degree.
5) Students whose parents’ income exceeds Rs.4.5 lakh per annum.

Ishan Uday Scholarship Amount:

* An amount of Rs.5400/- p.m. for General Degree courses will be awarded.
* An amount of Rs. 7800/- p.m. for Technical & Professional courses (including Medical & Para medical courses) will be given.

(The scholarship amount will be awarded through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the beneficiary student.)

Selection Process:

Distribution of scholarship amongst the states of NER will be done on the basis of population census(last).
- If slots in a particular state remain vacant due to non-availability of eligible candidates, the vacant slots will be distributed equitably amongst other states.
- There will be 3% reservation for Persons with Disability (PwD) as per the norms of Government of India.

Required Documents:

Following are the documents required at the time of application:

i) Domicile certificate of the applicant issued by the competent authority.
ii) Proof of family annual income issued by the competent authority.
iii) For renewals, the annual progress report and continuation of studies will be required to be uploaded/ verified by the concerned University/ Institution/ College.

How To Apply For Ishan Uday Scholarship

Eligible students may apply online through National e-Scholarship Portal of the Government of India URL:


Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Online' button below.
Step 2: Read the guidelines carefully, select the undertaking and 'Continue'.
Step 3: Select the state of domicile, scholarship category, scheme type (scholarship scheme), gender, write the applicant's name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID.
Step 4: Provide the bank details (Bank name, IFSC Code, Account Number)
Step 5: Select Aadhaar or Bank Account Number as identification detail and click on the 'Register' button.
Step 6: The mobile number will be verified and an OTP will be generated.

Step 7: Now, log in using OTP and fill the form.
Step 8: An application ID and password will be generated. Use that for future references.
Note: All the applicants are advised to fill the form correctly, no changes can be made once submitted. The applicants are also advised to fill only one application as multiple applications will lead to the cancellation of the form.
